MBLEx Practice Test FAQs

What is on the MBLEx exam?

The MBLEx covers seven content areas: anatomy and physiology (the largest section), kinesiology, pathology and contraindications, client assessment and treatment planning, benefits and physiological effects of massage, ethics and professional boundaries, and guidelines for professional practice.

What score do I need to pass the MBLEx?

You need a scaled score of 630 out of 900 to pass the MBLEx. Your raw score (number correct) is converted to this scaled score, so the exact number of questions you must answer correctly varies slightly between exam versions.

How long should I study for the MBLEx?

Most massage school graduates study 4–8 weeks before the MBLEx. Focus heavily on anatomy and physiology — it's the biggest single section — and don't neglect ethics and pathology, which are easy points if you study the contraindications.

Can I retake the MBLEx if I fail?

Yes. If you don't pass, you can retake the MBLEx after a waiting period (typically 30 days, though some states differ). You'll need to submit a new application and pay the exam fee again.

Do all states require the MBLEx?

Most states require the MBLEx for massage therapy licensure, but a few have their own state exams or additional requirements. Always check with your state licensing board before scheduling.
